39 days

well only 39 days to go so what did I do?

1. started a new dishcloth/facewasher. I think we need heaps more. The girls love them.

2. I started a naughty mat - in super bulky yarn to put at the front door for well, those times.

3. got my first delivery of milk and bread from aussie farmers direct. More about that tomorrow after I get the fruit/veg pack.

40 days to go

Well as the sign says, 40 days to go (well approximately, at 3 weeks to go we will get definate confirmation of an unchangeable date!) and what have we done?

Today we have cleared up the garage so that we can move all our stuff down there as a "staging area" and alright we have packed up some stuff and minimised our clothes (again!) so that we have basically nothing to wear!

Then onto something crafty, so I pulled out my WIPs (works in progress, much nicer than UFOs - unfinished objects don't you think?) and finished off the sewing of one thing.

Yes! Isn't it cute? One of two that I am making for the girls. The centre panel and all fabrics used I bought with Spotlight vouchers my friends have given me for gifts recently :P (within 3 years shall be recent!) And I have recycled an old sheet as the backing for the doona cover. All that remains is to add snaps to the bottom, but I will wait until I have all the covers I want to do at the same spot before getting it out.

And then there is this. My lovely sock for me. Other people can take such good shots why can't I?

stashbusting swap

Here is what I received in the stashbusting swap on Ravelry.
How cool is the owl hat?!
And these wristlets are in my car cause I wear them all the time. And look at the blurry pic of the beret. Covers all my head. Wore it to the farmers market on Sunday it was great.

Paperbag Swap

Missy Mack hosted a paper bag swap recently. (have posted about it earlier somewhere) and I thought I should post these pics of what I sent and received.

This orange and green project folder and matching coffe cup bag were made by me for Levineke.

Then below in the pink and blue is my parcel (minus the Frankie magazine which had already been 'borrowed' by the time I go the camera ready!)

Anyway, 2 potholders (YAY my first for my new house!) and a toiletries bag complete with little bunny mirror and worry dolls.. Unfortunately my toiletry bag is being used instead as a fantastic sock project bag! It fits a sock project perfectly. Then I put it in my handbag (which is huge I admit!) and I am set for the day.

Swap parcels received #!

Ok this is the first of a few entries mainly for my aunt who sadly seems unable to get on to Ravelry!

First this is my Seuss swap package I got. The cat and the hat has been claimed by DD2 who constantly drags him around the house with her. The koolaid I will use for dying (I am getting into it.) ANd the scarf is a seussy looooong scarf perfect for the cold weather at the moment.

These next 2 photos are from my 80s sci-fi swap. Look at all the reading! The pattern up the back is for Yoda! How cool is that! Will post a pic when I make him..
Oh and the cowl, my first! Another item in use now. And the zippered purse is currently holding my project for yet another swap I am working on. Cannot show that cause it isn't finished.

thursday 4th

Hi all
well here is a sneak peek of the paperbag swap i sent to Levin as part of the paper bag swap. Have not heard if it has been received yet so cannot post bigger pics.

And here is a picture of some tops I appliqued for DD1. Am not really sure I should get her to pick pictures again. The fourth top (purple) she wants me to put a fire truck on. It kind of jars me cause there is a lot of orange and green that looks terrible with the purple. Oh well..
Have signed up for a lot more swaps so have to get cracking!

Wednesday 27th May

Well there is less than a week to go now in MissyMack's paperbag swap and I have posted no pictures! So here is a pic of the bits and pieces I got from my partner Levineke.
Well to be truthful this was taken after I had started, but you can see everything anyway. I will need to start working on it in order to get it out by the due date.... Stay tuned for pics of the final swap parcel...

Other projects I am currently working on include (yes the house is littered with the many projects I am working on) this scarf for my partner. He picked the wool and the number of stitches and tension. (see I am negating any version of the sweater curse!) I was hoping for bigger needles so it would go quicker but he thought it was too floppy. It is nearly half done.

And this puff is for another swap. I can't tell you what it is in case my partner reads this. I want it to be a surprise.

And that is all I have time for today. Playschool is about to finish.

Monday 25th May 2009

What an original title for the post but I have no idea what else to call it.
I am my own worst enemy. I am the lurker who goes to other people's blogs and thinks "(*&^% they have not updated. What are they up to?" and here is my blog in a constant state of slackness. So I will try to fix that.

So here are 2 recent purchases. This purse kit from GJs. I came home and checked out the website and found more beautiful patterns. I need more bags!! Check her out if you have not yet. http://www.nicolemdesign.com.au/patterns/index.html

And then I went to Flemington market ont he weekend and got the girls some new pants. I love KaT clothes. DD1 had one pair of pink striped size 2 that have lasted her from around 1 till now - at 2.5 they are about 3/4 length but still fit well. Love the stretchy fabric. So here
are the girls latest. (Alright I did buy more but they are being washed - gardening is dirty work!)
Here is some recent creativity. I have dyed some yarn with Kool Aid and food dye for a swap item. I have also finished the item but cannot post a pic because I have not sent it yet. It is not due until June I think.

And finally, has anyone seen these missing socks? Here is a selection of socks my daughters have only 1 of. You may have seen them in the streets - pulled off and forgotten, or maybe the washing machine vortex has spat them out in your machine?? I would really like them back, we are running very low.....

I'm back!

Well i have come back after my housesitting to show you presents!
Here is some yarn I bought myself with a voucher from friends for my birthday. I got about 13 balls of it. Hopefully enough to make what I have planned.....
I also got some material but that needs ironing (for a photo LOL) cause otherwise it looks terrible.

And here is a pic of my beautiful knitpicks nickle DPNs in the roll made by mum for my birthday. I had another photo showing off my interchangeables and the outside of the roll but I have saved it somewhere weird cause I cannot find it.
And here is the doll I made for DD2's first birthday. Clothes are my own design.

WIP wednesday #3

Alright so I missed a week...OOPS.
Anyway, the current works in project are these two jumpers. I have decided to trial recycling yarn. One is cotton (brown one) and the other wool (green one). The plan is to frog them both and reknit into something else. This green one I am going to trial a vest pattern for me. No idea if I would wear it so do not want to spend heaps on yummy yarn that may never be used - got enough... ;P
And these two items are finished!! The hat I have used all the wool I dyed with food dye and jelly (there is another post on this) with some maroon/burgandy for the extra. The hat fits DD1 who wanted to buy a hat like this from a shop that I hated so I said I would make her one.

This is a bag for holding plastic shopping bags. I have sent it off (with some other stuff I bought) for a birthday swap gift. Hope she likes it.

Have also signed up for a paper bag swap over at http://missymack.blogspot.com/ So Hello swap partner!

WIP Wednesday #2

Well here I am another Wednesday and yes! I am returning to post. Let's see how long this lasts...
Anyway here are my latest offerings.
This thing above is for a swap and I do not want my swapee to have too much info. So this picture will be all I post until after it has been sent and received.
This is what my BSJ looks like almost finished - some seeming to go.
And below is a present for someone in my life. Will post a picture after it has been given.

And finally, today I went to the Stitches and Craft show. I found it disappointing compared to previous years - it has been taken over by someone else and was at a new venue. Below is a picture of what I bought. The pattern book includes a bowling set I thought I might do for my girls for xmas.
I bought the dressing gown pattern (below left) from ak Traditions and she threw in the newest version of the doll pattern (that I have already knitted one of) and another pattern. Very nice of her.
Also got some overlocking thread and bobbin filler - things I am running low on.
Better get going now. See ya next time!

WIP Wednesday

I have decided to post my Works in Progress on a Wednesday. Here are 2 I am working on. The multi coloured is my Baby Surprise Jacket mark 2 for a KAL on ravelry. Nearly finished part 1.

These are my first ever socks. Done on 2 needles so still have some seaming to do.

My family's entries

The red top is my entry. The aqua tea cosy is my nana's entry. The green cardi was mum's entry and the purple scarf was my aunt's entry.

Knitting Challenge Entry display

here is the window from my LYS showing the entries.

yay me!!!

Yay me! I won the knitting challenge my LYS held over summer. And to make it even better, it is the first thing I have created myself with no pattern!! I used a top I got for DD2 for Christmas from my Aunt L for the measurements. Then I just used a stitch dictionary and worked out some patterns. Here it is!

Thursday, February 12, 2009

This is the yarn I am using for my ravelry BSJ kal. I have cast on and completed a couple of rows but already am way behind some participants! :P
Here is my belt - i used linen stitch and yarn my aunt dyed for me. Only problem is my photo taking. The colours seem not so good in this photo. Oh well....

These are the results of the jelly and food dye dying. This is the best photo I took but the blue seems much brighter IRL. The pinkish one was made using port wine jelly. The top two using regular food dye. All using patons totem creamy/white as a base. Not sure what to use them for..

housitting, heat wave, hopeless

Hi all
well since last posting I have stayed at friend's for a couple of days while they went away and moved in with DP's dad for a couple of weeks. It was a good break and I did get some stuff made and finished lots of stuff.

Which brings me to hopeless! It is official we have lost the cord for the camera for the last time! We have ordered a new one so hopefully we have learnt to put it in the same place so we can find it all the time. So photos of my finished things are coming but not ready yet.

What to do with a toddler in a heat wave! Ideas I used and want to remember.
1. Playing in the bath.

2. Make jelly. (Though make sure there is enough room in the fridge for it. Will need to look up other no-cook recipes I think.)

3. Dye wool. Yay! Finally got to try dying with jelly and with food dye. Photos have to wait unfortunately.

4. Paint with water colouring book. (yep, it is a mess but it did occupy time and I have now
found a book with paint with water pictures that as they dry they fade so it can be used over and over. excellent.)

5. Hand wash clothes in a bucket - well the bucket was from the shower and we just added salt to wash the clothes which are still losing dye. Only one mistake made with these when the blue pants were put in with regular washing. DD2 now has several suits that are blue.

Does anyone have any other good ideas I should file away??

Oh alright I will now return to my challenge knitting (see previous post for explanation) which I have now frogged twice! ARGH!

Cloth and Soap Swap

What a shocker of a pic. Sorry. Have since used this cloth though. This is what I got in my first ever Cloth and Soap swap on ravelry. The stitch markers are a beautiful red and the soap which is the rectangle at the back is a Black Boy rose and Emu oil soap. Very nice. Will do this swap again.
